Hi guys, I’m Steve and here is a little about me; I am 31 years old and I live in a 1930’s house in the outskirts of Derby with my girlfriend Sophie and our cats Mildred and Herbie, although at times it feels like we live in their house and they own us!

I have always loved photography, and I have fond memories of my Granddad with his camera. He was part of the Rolls Royce Photographic Society and had a dark room under his stairs at home. He used to re-colour black and white photographs which looked great. I enjoyed taking images of motorsport when I was younger and first started out with a Pentax 35mm film camera.

It was in 2005 when I was 19 that I decided to pursue photography seriously, and not just as a hobby. I went to Burton College and completed a BTEC National Diploma in Photography and Digital Imaging. In 2007 I went to Derby University and achieved a BA Honours Degree in Commercial Photography.

I did a broad range of photography work throughout my studies and I found that I really enjoyed photographing people and events. I like being creative with lighting for studio portraits and I also love shooting in a natural, candid style on location, and that’s where my interest in wedding photography began.

After I graduated from University in 2010, I saved as much money as possible and luckily I also got some financial help from my family to buy all my equipment and get a studio. I then set up my business professionally, specialising in weddings and portraits and have never looked back. I have 12 years’ experience in photography and my business has been running officially for 7 years.

I photograph weddings with a documentary style, as I believe it is the best way to show the true emotions of the day and tell your story in an authentic and expressive way. This style looks great in the story book albums I will create for you. Everyone is also more at ease on the day, as they don’t always know they are being photographed.

I am always prepared to capture the key moments of your special day that will last a lifetime. I think it’s very important not be too obtrusive so I am careful not to get in the way or take over. I will photograph everything during my time with you, from the smallest of details through to the most important shots of the day.

Aside from my passion for photography, my other love is motorbikes and I’m the host of ‘The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride’ Derbyshire. This is a classic and retro bike event originally set up in 2012, and my ride is just one of hundreds of rides across the world all on the same date each September. We dress up in tweed jackets, brogues and handlebar moustaches so it’s something completely different to the stereo-typical biker. The ride is in aid of prostate cancer and Men’s Mental Health and so far my Derbyshire rides have raised almost £20,000 in the last three years. Globally all the rides put together have raised 4.8m for 2017 alone.

I also take part in the annual ‘Ride To The Wall’ which is a massive bike ride to the National Memorial Arboretum. This year there was around 7,000 of us riding there to pay our respects to the fallen. It’s a real honour riding side by side with so many veterans and it’s a truly special event.

There are also lots of children’s toy runs that I attend at Easter and Christmas each year; there is nothing better than seeing the look on the kids’ faces when I turn up dressed as a giant rabbit or an elf with a few hundred others on our bikes.

I am also a bit of a war history buff, especially World War Two, which my other Granddad served in and was part of the Dunkirk Evacuation. He then served in India and I recently found his photo diary from the war which was amazing! He went on to meet my Italian Grandma, so I have family in Northern Italy. I adore the country and am particularly fond of Lake Garda, which Sophie and I drove to on holiday a couple of years ago.
